About
Ottavia Farchi is a director, screenwriter, videographer, and a master's student in Cultural Anthropology, Ethnology, and Ethnolinguistics at Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
Her artistic practice focuses on the intersection of ethnographic observation and transmedia experimentation, between cinema, theater, music, and spaces of collective resistance, with a constant focus on contemporary political issues.
Specializing in the exploration of marginalized territories and identities, she has developed extensive experience in fiction and documentary filmmaking, acquired in international contexts and through advanced training in Italy (Venice Biennale College Cinema, Becoming Maestre Netflix and David di Donatello, Cinecittà, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Andrea Soldani), as well as technical expertise, particularly in videography and theatrical dramaturgy.
A graduate in Historical and Artistic Cultural Heritage Studies from the University of Bari “Aldo Moro”, she teaches “Theatre: From Writing to Directing” at E-Campus University. She has worked as a videographer and digital artist at the Théâtre du Temps in Paris, as the playwright for the experimental play “Territoires”, currently in development for Ambroise Evano (APPAD, Rennes), and as a videographer for the Compagnie de Théâtre Marzal.
Her short film screenplays have won several awards, including U Sciurlat (Premio InediTO Colline di Torino, Premio Medioli), La Giostra (Best Screenplay at Gargano Film Festival), Madreperla (Nuovi Talenti Lab, Lecco Film Festival), and San Caldo (Biennale College Cinema, Premio InediTO di Torino).
She is currently in Brazil, where she’s working with the children of the indigenous community Tupinambá de Olivença (Bahia) for a bigger anthropological project, The International Archive, focusing on the archiviation and expression of the world’s collective imagination.
